Govt demands answers on unexpected power cuts

From Midday Report, 12:11 pm on 10 August 2021

The Energy Minister is demanding answers about why New Zealand seemingly ran out of power last night, leaving thousands without electricity. Transpower has apologised for the power cuts. Energy Minister Megan Woods met with officials, Transpower and the Electricity Authority this morning and says investigations are now underway. Meanwhile, Genesis energy says two unforeseen issues meant it was unable to get its third gas and coal plant, or Rankine unit, up and running at Huntly Power Station, in time to coincide with the peak power use.
