Petition to exempt Māori land from Public Works Act rejected

From Morning Report, 8:22 am on 27 February 2018

MPs have rejected a petition calling for the government to exempt Māori land from the Public Works Act. Petitioners who include the author Patricia Grace argued in 2016 that the forced sale of Māori land was unfair because so much Māori land had been lost over the years. The Māori Affairs Committee yesterday responded, saying it would not change the law or hold an inquiry. Te Manu Korihi reporter Te Aniwa Hurihanganui has more.
