Witness describes awful first minutes after tour bus crash near Rotorua

From Morning Report, 7:13 am on 5 September 2019

A witness has described the awful first minutes after arriving at the scene of the tour bus crash near Rotorua, in which five Chinese tourists died.

The police say the bus driver failed to navigate a "moderate-to-easy" bend in poor weather conditions on its way towards Rotorua yesterday morning, and flipped onto its side.

Of the 22 people who survived, including the driver, two were seriously hurt and airlifted to hospital, and four others have moderate injuries.

The Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand has travelled to Rotorua to assist, and survivors who were not taken to hospital are being taken care of in Rotorua. Jordan Bond reports.
