Whakaari/White Island: Government reviewing responsibilities

From Morning Report, 8:24 am on 11 June 2021

The government is reviewing the way responsibilities are shared for Whakaari/White Island - only four years after they were drawn up.

Twenty-two people died after the volcano erupted without warning in December 20-19, while tour groups visited the crater.

As RNZ revealed last week, Local Government Minister Nanaia Mahuta has been told her responsibilities for the island were ill-defined, and still are.
