Temporary bridge built in six days in Auckland

From Morning Report, 8:44 am on 8 February 2023

A 10-person crew has built a bridge in just six days to reconnect 200-cut off residents in Auckland's north-west after the floods.

Mill Flat Road Bridge in Riverhead was swept away on 27 January and residents had been using a 30-minute forestry road detour in the meantime.

The new, temporary Bailey Bridge was sent up from Hawkes Bay and is a better fit than the old one.

Auckland Transport stakeholder manager for north west road maintenance Johan Swanepoel spoke to Guyon Espiner.
