Street parties, lunches take place across UK

From Morning Report, 6:48 am on 8 May 2023

Street parties and special lunches have been taking place across the United Kingdom, as events celebrating the King's coronation continue.

Saturday night's official coronation, where thousands of people lined central London streets to get a glimpse of the Monarch as he paraded through the city in a grand carriage, have been followed overnight with more local events right around Great Britain.

But the day's main event - a coronation concert at Windsor Castle - will be getting underway around 7am NZT, with musicians like Lionel Richie and Katy Perry set to perform for the King, Queen and 20,000 other lucky concert-goers.
