The National Party is promising more fiscal transparency if it's elected to power later this year.
That would include annual reports on the performance of major programmes, such as health and education, with agencies forced to collect more data and meet performance measures.
There would be performance pay for public sector bosses. And they'd bring in taxpayer receipts - you'd receive a yearly list of taxes paid and government payments received, and a breakdown of where that money was spent.
National hasn't costed the idea but believes it could be paid for within current baselines.
The taxpayer receipts idea left Prime Minister Chris Hipkins speechless when he was asked about it on Monday.
