The Education Ministry has warned teachers not to use Chat GPT to mark students' work, saying it could be unfair and discriminatory.
The Ministry also says the technology, which generates written material based on prompts from users, can produce answers that are just plain wrong.
Victoria University's computer scientist, Dr Simon McCallum, joined Tim Watkin to explain the limits and potential of the technology.
