Steve Gunn's music is evocative of city life. His songs are snapshots of people, relationships and situations. Listening to his albums is like taking a walk through any urban centre and paying close attention to what's going on around you.

Gunn is currently touring Aotearoa for the third year in a row, playing solo acoustic shows. He dropped into the RNZ studios having just landed in Auckland, to play two beautiful acoustic songs.

He spoke to Elliott Childs about what influences his songwriting, making the decision to move away from "guitar nerdery" and how working with Bob Dylan's longtime bass player Tony Garnier changed the sound of his latest record The Unseen In Between.

Steve Gunn's NZ dates:

  • Nov 8 - The Cook, Dunedin
  • Nov 9 - The Plant, Blenheim
  • Nov 10 - Moon, Wellington
  • Nov 13 - Sitting Room Session, Hawke's Bay
