New Zealand band Dimmer's 2001 album I Believe You Are A Star is rightly regarded as a classic and one of the great albums of Aotearoa.

Conceived by singer-songwriter Shayne Carter, the album was five years in gestation and Carter's first release after the demise of the heralded Straitjacket Fits.

To celebrate the album's 20th anniversary, Carter convened a six-piece band to perform the album in its entirety on a special one-off tour.

Featuring old Dimmer hands James Duncan on bass and Gary Sullivan on drums, Carter was joined by exciting up-and-comers Louisa Nicklin guitar/vocals/saxophone, Neive Strang on vocals/percussion and Durham Fenwick on keyboards and live electronics.

With much of the material previously confined to the studio, the music itself has rarely been performed in a live setting.

Carter says the big band format enabled a fully realised live representation of the album for the first time.

RNZ music engineer Andre Upston was at Auckland venue The Hollywood to record this unique performance.
