The founder and director of the institute is Professor Richard Beasley. This week he was awarded the Sir Charles Hercus Medal by the Royal Society of New Zealand for his contributions to health science research and asthma research in particular.

Professor Beasley tells Kim Hill that New Zealand has one of the highest rates of asthma in the world, yet despite a huge research effort, we still don’t know why.
