State Highway 3 through the Manawatu Gorge is open again after being closed for a week because of a slip.
The Transport Agency said only one-lane will be operating and temporary traffic lights are in place.
The road will open from 7am until 6pm for the next couple of days.
The Transport Agency is expecting more rocks to come down over the weekend because of heavy rain forecast for the region.
It said it would not hesitate to close the route again if the situation changed.
Another major landslip in 2011 closed the gorge road for nearly a year.
