Auckland wins one-day final

6:46 am on 1 April 2013

Auckland has won the domestic one day cricket competition, beating Canterbury by three wickets in the final at Eden Park.

Buoyed by the return of the Black Caps hero Peter Fulton, Canterbury got off to a good start with the bat after losing the toss, racing along to 58 for one.

But suddenly Canterbury was 60 for five, a collapse that culminated in the 35th over when the visitors were all out for just 139.

Tom Latham top-scored for Canterbury with 42, Peter Fulton hit 41.

In reply, Auckland reached the target in the 26th over, but not before it lost seven wickets to some determined Canterbury bowling.

Anaru Kitchen top-scored with 37, while Auckland captain Gareth Hopkins was 34 not out.

Hopkins says the victory was an ugly one.
