Scott sets sights on Claret Jug

Adam Scott wants to strike back for Australian sport at this week's British Open and hopefully inspire the Ashes team to do the same.

The world number four golfer admits it's been a difficult time to be in the United Kingdom following England's win in the first cricket Test and the British Lions' rugby union series win over the Wallabies.

Scott says he can think of no better way to get Australian sport heading back in the right direction than by winning at Muirfield.

The Queenslander is backing Australia to win the second Ashes test at Lord's and has pinned his hopes on Ashton Agar, the teenage sensation who is nicknamed "Scotty" due to his resemblance to Australia's top ranked golfer.

The 142nd Open tees off on Thursday with Scott hoping to bounce back from a final round meltdown at last year's event.

Scott held a four-shot lead at Lytham 12 months ago, but bogeyed the last four holes to lose the Claret Jug to Ernie Els.
