The successful defence by Auckland golfer Lydia Ko of her Canadian Open title will make her think more about turning professional, but the trophy and $385,000 in foregone prizemoney won't hasten her decision.
Ko's become the first amateur to defend an LPGA title with a commanding five-stroke win at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, but second-placed Frenchwoman Karine Icher has collected the winner's cheque because of Ko's amateur status.
Ko's had four other top-10 finishes on the tour this season, giving up hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizemoney, but said earlier in the year it would be another two years before she turns professional and that still appears to be the plan.
She says the decision will be left to her parents and her management team.
