San Francisco is again shaping as the likely venue for the 2017 America's Cup.

The America's Cup Event Authority which runs the event has received a letter from San Francisco's Mayor Ed Lee, proposing venue sites for the 2017 race.

Lee says the city is keen to host the event again guided by the lessons learned and practical experience of this year's America's Cup.

At this year's event team bases were scattered around San Francisco Bay but Lee proposes bring them much closer together in four years time.

Following the proposal from the Mayor, the City and the America's Cup Event Authority will now work on a comprehensive host city agreement.
