Liverpool suffer another night of misery

It has been another night of misery for English Premier League football side Liverpool after they were held to a 1-1 third round FA Cup draw with Championship strugglers Reading.

Earlier, Soceroo Tim Cahill ensured Liverpool's city neighbours Everton avoided the embarrassment of a third round replay against third-tier side Carlisle by scoring the crucial goal in a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park.

Premier League basement club Portsmouth, the 2008 FA Cup winners, has had to come from a goal behind to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to Championship side Coventry City.

Sunderland defeated non-league Barrow 3-0 while Stoke saw off non-league York 3-1.

Relegation-threatened Bolton, who mid week sacked manager Gary Megson, endured a goalless first-half before beating Lincoln, 90th out of England's 92 league clubs, 4-0.

Championship high-flyers Nottingham Forest held Premier League Birmingham to a goalless draw.

In the all Premier League clashes, Aston Villa beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1 and Wigan came from behind to defeat Hull 4-1.

Manchester City won 1-0 away to Championship side Middlesbrough and Tottenham beat second-tier Peterborough 4-0.

Championship side Preston, who sacked manager Alan Irvine last week, were the day's biggest winners, hammering League One Colchester 7-0.
