Lee in contention after up and down round

The New Zealand golfer Danny Lee had a rollercoaster third round at the PGA tour's latest FedEx Cup playoff event in Boston but still climbed up the leaderboard to remain in title contention.

The 25-year-old sits in a share of sixth place following a two-under 69 in his third round in which he bounced around the leaderboard climbing as high as a tie for third.

The New Zealand men's number one is five shots behind the leader Sweden's Henrik Stenson on 13 under.

Going into tomorrow's final round Lee is well placed for another top 10 finish and is also close to cementing is place in FedEx Cup finale.

Lee began his up and down round by recording four birdies over his first five holes before carding a double bogey seven at the par five seventh and a bogey at the ninth.

He then shot two straight birdies to start the back nine only to drop shots at consecutive holes on the 12th and 13th.

Lee carded his seventh birdie at the par four 15th to take him to two-under for the round.

The New Zealander currently sits in eighth on the projected FedEx Cup standings.

The top 70 advance to the third and penultimate playoff round and the top 30 play in the season finale Tour Championship.
