They were thrashed 17-0 by the Paramatta Eels after going down to the Manly Sea Eagles 15-11.

The Auckland club stated before the tournament that winning was not their priority with an arduous National Rugby League season ahead.

That was undoubtedly the reason why Shaun Johnson did not take the field in either of Saturday's games after the playmaker suffered a groin strain in the warm-up.

But Warriors nines coach Steve McNamara said Johnson could feature in Sunday's third and final pool game against the St George Illawarra Dragons.

"He's integral to promoting the game in New Zealand and around the world, so if Shaun's available and fit, we'll give him that opportunity to play," said McNamara

Gold Coast and Penrith were the first two teams into the quarter-finals after claiming a perfect two wins from two attempts on day one.

Six teams were undefeated after day one of the tournament.
