Switzerland have pulled off the biggest shock so far at the World Cup with a 1-nil win over one of the tournament favourites Spain, their first win in 19 games against the European champions.
Gelson Fernandes' goal after a mix up in the Spanish defence gave the Swiss a shock 52nd minute lead and Spain, were unable to find a way through the massed ranks of white Switzerland shirts.
The defeat ended a run of 12 straight victories for the Spanish, who had qualified for the World Cup with a 100 percent record and were many pundits' favourites to win the tournament.
The Swiss share the lead in Group H with Chile, who beat Honduras 1-nil in last night's opening game.
