Trade 'secrets'

8:36 am on 21 October 2014

Green Party co-leader Russel Norman says New Zealanders are being kept in the dark about key aspects of the proposed Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal.

The website Wikileaks has released draft documents from TPP talks showing pharmaceutical companies want patent rights strengthened, raising fears access to cheaper drug substitutes could be restricted.

Negotiators from participating countries are due to meet this week in Australia to discuss the document.

Dr Norman told Radio New Zealand that key aspects of the talks were being kept secret.

“If you look at this leaked document, all of the other countries know what New Zealand's position is in these negotiations.”
