The Job In Afghanistan - Warrant Officer Denis Wanihi

From Afternoons, 2:10 pm on 7 September 2012

August 28th, 2010 was no typical day, if there is such a thing, for Warrant Officer Class Two Denis Wanihi, New Zealand Army Bomb disposal expert. In the morning, he was called in to nuteralise an IED- improvised explosive device the scurge of the troops working in Afghanistan, strapped to a vehicle in a crowded neighborhood. That was not the end of it. Later that same afternoon, he was called on to help break down 12 suicide vests insurgents failed to detonate before they were killed. This week, Warrant Officer Denis Wanihi has been given one of New Zealand's highest military honors... The New Zealand Gallantry Medal. He's a Father of 3 who says his family's support deserves a medal too.
