Navigation for Sunday Morning

8:10 Is there a recession looming?

There was interesting and much-discussed opinion from Westpac this past week about how the New Zealand economy won't enter a recession. Longer-term expectations of inflation will "stay under control", that was the phrase used.

Consumer Price Index inflation will fall slowly but steadily, the annual rate for this year will be 5.1 per cent, 3.2 per cent next year, 2.6 in 2024.

The ANZ sees a recession as still being a risk, and it reckons inflation this year will settle at 6.1% or so for this calendar year.

An intriguing boxing contest is on this morning in Saudi Arabia, the rematch between the UK's Anthony Joshua, the former all-conquering world heavyweight champion, and the man who beat him - Oleksandr Usyk from Ukraine, heavyweight champion of three belts.

Kevin Barry, Olympic boxing silver medallist, and the man who's trained David Tua and Joseph Parker talks to Jim about this fight and the pre-match antics at a media conference.

8.35 Calling Home with Don McGlashan

Calling Home this morning, a very familiar name, and voice. This is an appropriate song of his to play in advance of that, about someone moving house and making a discovery in the bathroom cupboard.

Don McGlashan, one of our favourite musicians, former front man for the Muttonbirds and Blam Blam Blam, and once one half of the duo Front Lawn with Harry Sinclair.  He's calling home from Canada where he lives with his wife Canadian, Ann Macdonell, Director of Library Advancement at Simon Fraser University.

9:06 Mediawatch

This week Mediawatch looks at two investigations into the impact of misinformation - and how the media have responded.

Also - how fears of fringe candidates filling a void in politics made headlines - and two invitations to put the PM on air fell on deaf ears.
