1:15 First cult awareness conference down under to be held in Christchurch

Australasia will host its first ever cult awareness conference next year.

Experts and survivors will meet in Christchurch to highlight how cults work, and the harm they cause.

It's called Decult, and is being organised by journalist and author of Cult Trip: Inside the World of Coercion and Control Anke Richter.

She talks to Jesse about hosting the gathering in Aotearoa.

1.25 Bubble Man embarks on tour of Aotearoa

Eran Backler's better known as Bubble Man and is about to tour Aotearoa with his multi-award winning show.

He's been bubbling professionally for the past 15 years entertaining crowds around the world. He talks to Jesse about how got into 'bubbling' and the world records he's amassed along the way.

1.35 Glowing mammals and a new discovery about them

If a passel of possums - a group of possums - went to a disco, they would glow in shocking fluorescent blues and pinks.

When UV light is shined onto their fur, the light is absorbed and re-emitted in bright colours.

It's not a new discovery, but in recent years has attracted more attention.

An Australian Zoologist Lisa Reinhold has been studying fluorescence in mammals using road kill.

3:10 Meeting the 'word nerds' who created the Oxford English Dictionary

They are the original "word nerds", volunteers around the world including New Zealand who would trace the meaning of words across time and describe how people were actually using them. Three thousand people, including a Kiwi fraudster, a few murders and one cannibal, sent in words and their meanings to be including in the very first Oxford English Dictionary.  Linguist, lexicographer, and Oxford professor Sarah Ogilvie discovered the names of the contributors in a small black book tied with a cream ribbon in the basement of the Oxford University Press. She spent 8 years tracking down the stories behind the pe for her new book, "The Dictionary People: The Unsung Heroes Who Created the Oxford English Dictionary".
