French Polynesian voters have elected two members for the French parliament

8:48 am on 3 June 2002

French Polynesian voters have elected the territory's two members for the French Lower house -- two weeks ahead of the rest of France.

Michel Buillard and Beatrice Vernaudon of the rightist RPR party won their seats in the first round of voting after getting more than 50 per cent of the votes.

Turnout was just over fifty per cent.

Because of the territory's geographical spread across many small islands, the first round of voting was a week ahead of all other constitutencies.
