Congress candidate in American Samoa attacks Hawaiian Airlines monopoly

4:28 pm on 15 November 2002

One of the two Congressional candidate in American Samoa, Fagafaga Daniel Langkilde, has accused Hawaiian Airlines of monopolising air-services between Honolulu and Pago Pago.

Fagafaga has also criticised the incumbent Faleomavaega Enu Hunkin for a lack of effort in trying to secure another carrier to ensure competition in the market.

Fagafaga said on local television that American Samoa has tolerated for many years Hawaiian Airlines monopolisation of the market with higher fares between Pago Pago and Honolulu, than any other sector of similar distance.

Fagafaga says residents have complained repeatedly about the service and the need for competition and he says Faleomavaega should have resolved the consumer problem years ago.
