Papua New Guinea's Health Secretary has admitted that 11 hospitals in the country could close down because of the non payment of electricity bills.

Dr Nicholas Mann says that that discussions are underway with PNG Power about it's threat to disconnect power to 11 hospitals because of their outstanding electricity bills.

His comments come after the chairperson of the Boram General Hospital in East Sepik Province claimed that hospitals will shut down because of a lack of funds to pay essential services.

Dr Mann, says he has called for the Department of Finance and Treasury to release funds to cover the hospitals' outstanding electricity bills.
