Around 30 suspected separatist rebels in the Indonesian province of Papua ambushed a group of Government officials near the border with Papua New Guinea.

Associated Press in Jakarta quotes a member of the party saying none of the Government officials was hurt but at least two of the attackers were injured.

The officials were travelling in one car with soldiers also included in their entourage.

The soldiers returned the fire from the suspected rebels and are reported to have injured at least two of them.
