France has increased emergency aid to New Caledonia's cyclone victims to almost 700-thousand US dollars.

The minister in charge of overseas territories, Brigitte Girardin, told parliament in Paris that this was in addition to relief worth more than 25 million dollars to replace destroyed homes and to create a fund for those who have no insurance.

So far 35 tonnes of food aid has been delivered, as well as 30-thousand litres of water.

Cyclone Erica killed two people and left thousands homeless when it hit the main island two weeks ago.
