Nurses and health care workers at medical clinics in Solomon Islands are to return to work after reaching a resolution of their pay dispute.
They walked off the job two days ago, claiming they were owed seven pay days.
But, the deputy mayor of the Honiara Municipal Authority, Jim Sevesi, says the dispute has now been sorted out and AUSAID will pay the workers for three of the pay arrears, owed for this year.
"We're expecting them to return to their working clinics today, for the most , otherwise it could be tomorrow after we have settled the arrears with the AUSAID Trust Fund with the ministry of Health and Medical Service."
Mr Sevesi says the council has subsidised the nurses pay in the past when the government has been unable to meet its part of the payments to the Health Trust Fund from which salaries are drawn.
AUSAID contributes jointly to the fund.
Mr Sevesi says he expects the nurses to also seek payment for three arrears owed from the previous year through the Ministry of Health.
