Australia reviewing aid package to PNG

7:21 am on 4 August 2003

Australia's Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, says Canberra is reviewing its 200 million US dollar aid package to Papua New Guinea.

He says it is important to see if the money is adressing areas of concern.

The Australian Associated Press quotes Mr Downer as saying that there are no immediate plans to reduce funding to PNG, but the federal government wanted to know if it was getting the best value for its money.

He said PNG had Budget problems, concerns about delivery of service and law and order issues.
