Cook Islands forum takes stock of country's development

5:13 pm on 21 November 2003

Arresting the declining population and keeping Cook Islanders involved in Cook Islands business were key issues at this week's National Development Forum.

National Planning Task Force chairman Tamari'i Tutangata says the two-day forum was well attended by a broad range of community groups, traditional leaders and politicians.

Discussions centred on identifying and prioritising the country's goals in the next twenty years.

Taking stock of developments in the Cook Islands over the past twenty years, Mr Tutangata says the economy is in a healthy state again...

"There wasn't any talk about any sort of morale booster that is required, more that we needed to find ways to bring our people back to the Cook Islands to take on the ever widening requirements for the labour force."
