The Ombudsman Commission in Papua New Guinea has described 5-month adjournment of Parliament as dangerous and a bad example of leaders going on a paid holiday.
Tthe National parliament has been adjourned until June the 29th, a move temporarily saving the Government from having to deal with a threatened vote of no confidence when its grace period finishes next month.
It came as the Government had been struggling to push through legislation that would have extened this grace period from 18 months to 3 years.
The National newspaper reports the Chief Ombudsman, Ila Geno, as saying the move doesn't look right and the commission was not consulted on the proposal.
Mr Geno says he hopes Parliament has sought proper and independent advice.
Soon after the surprise move on Wednesday the Deputy Opposition Leader, Matthew Siune, said his party regretted the adjournment decision as the nation's interests demanded close attention.
