PNG Electoral Commission still checking candidates credentials

The Papua New Guinea Electoral Commission is still collecting information before deciding which party nominees can contest three by-elections beginning next month.

Arguments within the People's Progress Party, and the Pangu and National Parties have seen factions nominating different candidates.

The Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen, says registered political parties can have only one official candidate in an election.

The May to June by-elections are for the Chimbu provincial, the Angalimp-South Waghi Open and Yangoru-Saussia Open in East Sepik electorates.
