Funeral services for the Port Director Seugogo Herman Schirmer are to be held in American Samoa this weekend.

Seugogo, a retired commander of the US Navy, is the second cabinet member to pass away in the last month.

He died last Thursday from what is believed to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

An autopsy of the body has been completed however the Director of Medical Services at LBJ Hospital, Dr Iotamo Saleapaga, says he is not privy to the results.

The Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety, Mike Fuiava, says he has not received an update from investigators on the progress of their inquiry into the death.

The lack of information has fuelled speculation and rumours about Seugogo's untimely passing.

Meanwhile the territory's member of the US Congress Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has spoken publicly about the death.

"I am very, very shocked and still absolutely surprised at what has happened. This has happened to such a good friend and Samoa has lost a great leader and a great example to our young people, having achieved a high office in the military and the navy as an officer."
