Fiji police have charged two traditional warriors who caused an affray during funeral of the former president, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, on Lakeba Island.

Traditional warriors from different clans clashed last weekend over which group was rightly charged with performing this duty.

During the argument, two men were clubbed on the head with traditional weapons, causing serious injuries requiring hospitalisation.

Others fled for their lives and police had to rush reinforcements to the island as tension escalated.

The military ordered the traditional warriors away from area and was forced to take over guard duties around Ratu Mara's casket.

The arrested warriors will go on trial for assault and causing serious bodily injury.
