Special French Police continue to be on standby in Papeete despite the election of the new French Polynesian President, Oscar Temaru.

Two squadrons were flown to Papeete after the shock loss by Gaston Flosse in last month's election.

Walter Zweifel reports from Papeete.

"The French High Commission has declined all comment about the mobile force's movements but says the election process is only complete once all ministers are in place. A Commission spokesperson says the officers were called in by the French State as a precaution and were not there at the instigation of the ousted Government. As the Territory is awaiting the formation of the new Government the police officers are still at their beach resort near the airport."
