The Solomon Islands government has allocated an additional 1-million US dollars for public service retirements and redundancies this year.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Shadrach Fanega, says about 500 public servants will come under the government's plans to reduce the size of the civil service.

These include police officers who have reportedly been issued with retirement letters by the Public Service in the past few weeks.
