New Zealand appoints senior diplomat as its Fiji envoy

New Zealand has named senior diplomat Michael Green as the new High Comissioner to Fiji.

The foreign minister, Phil Goff, in announcing the appointment, says he is pleased that the traditionally strong ties with Fiji have been restored and that New Zealand is looking to further strengthen them.

Mr Green, who is currently a Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will replace Adrian Simcock in November.

He has formerly served as Ambassador to Indonesia and headed the New Zealand intelligence agency, the External Assessments Bureau.

Mr Green will also be accredited as High Commissioner to Tuvalu and Nauru.
