Fiji golfer Vijay Singh has been given the country's highest honour after he became the world's first ranking player by displacing Tiger Woods.

Singh has been made a Companion of the Order of Fiji.

The Companion of the Order of Fiji is usually awarded for eminent achievement and merit of the highest degree in the service of Fiji or to humanity at large.

Singh is likely to return to Fiji in February next year and may be invested with the honour then.
