Police in Solomon Islands are awaiting a report from a post-mortem to establish the cause of the death of an Australian businessman.

50-year-old Nick Constantine was found dead at his office at Point Cruz in Honiara, early on Wednesday morning.

A police spokesman says they expect the forensic report by midday today.

He also confirmed that a knife was found near the scene and that police are treating the death as a homicide case.
