A former governor to the Indonesian province of Papua, Freddy Numberi, has been named the new Indonesian minister of fisheries in President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's cabinet.
Susilo named Freddy in a speech after he was sworn in as president.
Freddy, who is the Indonesia Ambassador to the Vatican, is the only native Papuan named in Susilo's 36-member cabinet.
After a career in the military, Freddy served as Papua's governor from 1998 to 2001.
He also served as a minister in president Abdurrahman Wahid's government.
