The Criminal Investigation Department of the Solomon Islands Police has launched a major investigation into an alleged prostitution racket in Honiara.
The CID director, Jackson Ofu, says the investigation has been sparked by recent media reports of criminal activity in the capital.
There have been reports that Asian women have been brought in from Korea, China, Malaysia and Indonesia by a local Chinese businessman.
Mr Ofu says he suspects there is big money behind the operation and it may be a part of a larger international racket.
He says the CID is working with other government departments.
"Currently we are working together with the Immigration Department, and members of the PPF (participating police force), RAMSI, and Solomons police - it's a joint teamwork to try and get to the bottom of the allegations"
