Authorities in the Indonesian province of Papua say an earthquake has left at least 11 people dead and 65 more injured.

Buildings have collapsed in the coastal town of Nabire after the quake yesterday morning.

The Meteorology and Geophysics agency in the provincial capital, Jayapura, says a telecom company building and several churches have collapsed.

A spokesman for the agency, Slamet Suyitno, says planes cannot land at the airport as the tower might have collapsed.
