The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, is welcoming an announcement that the President of the Republic of China will visit Solomon Islands this month.
Sir Allan says the visit by President Chen Shui-bian is a clear manifestation of the seriousness Taiwan holds for the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
Sir Allan told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that the visit will further strengthen the relationship and allow the leaders to discuss areas of mutual cooperation.
Taiwan is one of the largest bilateral aid donors to Solomon Islands.
And, President Shui-bian's visit will be the first by the highest ranking Taiwanese official since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1983.
