Solomons police expecting more arrests from citizenship investigation

The acting police commissioner in Solomon Islands says more arrests are likely as an investigation into the alleged illegal granting of citizenship certificates continues.

On Monday the Provincial Government Minister, Clement Rojumana, was arrested and charged with 25 counts of official corruption while he held the Home Affairs portfolio.

Acting commissioner, Sandi Peisley, says the charges concern the granting of citizenship to people who had not necessarily met the legal criteria.

"There is a wide range of people he has granted those to. We actually wouldn't be identifying people at this stage because the investigation is still ongoing."

Two other officials - a magistrate and a former chairman of the citizenship committee - were charged with similar offences last year and Ms Peisley says she expects more arrests.
