7:06 pm on 24 February 2005

The American Red Cross has completed its damage assessment in the Manu'a Islands in American Samoa after Cyclone Olaf.

The Red Cross Chapter Solution manager for the Pacific, Rock Ahulau, says 70 homes were completely destroyed, 171 suffered major damage and 38 received minor damage.

Mr Ahulau says they have spoken to all affected families.

"From that we are going to determine what our game plan will be. What we would like to do and will be doing, is purchasing locally here on Tutuila, food clothing, cooking utensils, pot and pans and other items."
