Red Cross halts blood supply to American Samoan hospital

The LBJ Tropical Medical Centre in American Samoa has confirmed that the American Red Cross had suspended blood supplies because of late payments.

The hospital's CEO, Taufete'e John Faumuina Jr., says blood orders for the local hospital had been suspended because of a 70-thousand US dollars debt.

He says the hospital paid up the arrears and a new shipment of blood from the Red Cross has now been received.

Some vendors have reported that they have been told by the LBJ Business office that they have to wait several more months to get paid.
