Journalism in Papua New Guinea has lost an inspirational figure with the death of Tarcissius Bobola this week.

He died aged 50 in Port Moresby General Hospital on Monday night after a long bout of ill health.

He left a widow, Dorothy Manoa, and a son, Abraham, 18.

Mr Bobola began his working career in the early 1970s as a cadet reporter with the Post-Courier in Lae.

He shot to the top of his profession, soon writing about the happenings of national politics in the groundbreaking '70s.

Personal and health problems later disrupted parts of his life but he still gave valuable service to the Electoral Commission in particular in his later years.
