Fiji's police commissioner says the impact of Asian organised crime in the region has become a major concern.
Andrew Hughes says the police will now focus on the activities of a number of Asians in Fiji who have been found to have links to criminals globally.
He says the Suva-based regional Transnational Crime Unit will now focus on hard drugs, money laundering, organised fraud and organised crime by Asians.
This has been done to better coordinate the work of investigating suspects.
Mr Hughes was speaking at the change in leadership of the Transnational Crime Unit which has passed from a Ni-Vanuatu officer to a senior Tongan police inspector.
